Premarital Counseling, Couples + Sex Therapy

For couples seeking premarital counseling, I often utilize the structured prepare/enrich assessment to guide time limited sessions.

For couples therapy, I have specialty training in Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT), Psychodynamic Couples Therapy, Bowen/Family Systems Therapy (BFST), Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT), Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT), Relational Cultural Therapy (RCT), and the Gottman Method.

I have extensive education and experience working with couples who are struggling with long standing emotional disconnection, high conflict interactions, rebuilding trust after infidelity, communication and conflict resolution difficulties, co-parenting struggles, attachment ruptures, sexual disorders and/or discrepancy desires, couples with trauma histories and where one/both partners struggle with severe mental illness. I also have extensive experience with couples on the brink of divorce.

I am able to offer discernment counseling for couples who are uncertain about moving forward with couples therapy and conjoint mediation (often with an attorney) for couples who have decided to separate.

To learn more about how I work with couples, please reference my couples therapy FAQs page. I also offer half and one day intensives on some weekend dates.

Family Therapy

I specifically work with many parent + adult child and sibling dyads for family therapy primarily through a Bowenian/Family Systems, Structural/Strategic, and Solution Focused Approach. Family sessions are often time limited. Working with whole family systems is possible in my practice, but will likely require meeting on a weekend (via zoom or in person) for an intensive session vs. regular appointments.

Group Therapy

I have run several groups over my career, including general interpersonal process groups, CBT and DBT skills groups, support groups for survivors of interpersonal violence, and affinity groups for women and BIPOC students. Currently via my practice, I am running a South Asian Women’s Support and Process Group.

Individual Therapy

My therapeutic approach draws from psychodynamic, cultural contextual, transactional analysis, humanistic/existential, and cognitive-behavioral models. Being an integrative practitioner allows me to be emotionally attune and exploratory to clients who want a more dynamic and insight oriented approach and active in structured problem solving and skill development for clients who want a more short term or solution focused approached.

I aim to practice cultural humility, even with clients who share my core identities, and aim to make psychotherapy as inclusive as possible. I am deeply committed to providing culturally curious and sensitive treatment to every person or couple I work with and believe this is important for any type of psychotherapy to be effective.
