South Asian Women's Support Groups
I run a support + interpersonal process group for South Asian women that meets on Fridays from 12-1:15pm via zoom.
Group involves anywhere between 6-8 members and 1-2 leaders who will meet each week for 75 minutes. Groups offer members the opportunity to learn more about themselves and others in a safe space and can often lead to increased self-awareness, a better sense of self, and improved social and problem-solving skills. This particular group will be a combination of giving and receiving support, sharing experiences outside of group, increasing coping skills for various challenges, and focusing on the “here and now” to improve interpersonal awareness and functioning.
Members will have the chance to learn how they relate to others and to receive and give feedback around behaviors observed in group in order to understand projections and accurate appraisals of behavior. Voicing “here and now” reactions is an important part of the group process and members are encouraged to lean into moments of discomfort and to be as honest as possible and to share thoughts and feelings they may normally keep to themselves. Learning to effectively work through moments of disagreement and tension are a critical component of this group.
