South Asian Therapist
South Asian diaspora individuals, couples, and families often navigate a complex set of conflicting cultural expectations, intergenerational and modern values, and stress tied to conflicting expectations and needs that can impact emotional well‑being and relationships.
Many South Asian clients grapple with balancing collectivistic norms with individualistic values that shape identity development, boundaries, and communication patterns. Additionally, South Asian individuals experienced increased pressure to succeed from both within and outside their family systems.
In family therapy, South Asian individuals often navigate intergenerational misunderstandings around autonomy, dating/marriage, career choices, gender expectations, and expressions of emotion.
As a South Asian therapist who also minored in South Asian studies in undergrad, I have a solid working knowledge and understanding of the complexity of South Asian family dynamics, expectations, norms, and challenges.
Currently, through my private practice, I run an interpersonal process and support group for South Asian Women in their 20’s and 30’s.
