Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

As a group specialist and former psychologist at MIT, I was required to master the curriculum and techniques of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). This new wave of behavioral therapy is by far one of the most structured, concrete, and empirically supported treatments in the field. It is the gold standard treatment for individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). However, DBT is now used for a wide variety of psychological diagnoses and issues, including broad struggles with emotional and physiological reactivity, interpersonal deficits, and in fostering the development of self-awareness and emotional maturity.

DBT involves moving through 4 modules: mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance. Each module comes with several handouts and daily homework assignments. For individuals seeking structured DBT sessions, it is required individuals purchase the DBT Skills Workbook.
